Polly Pockets

You've probably all heard of Polly Pockets - those 1" toys that fit into a compact that the kids could carry around with them.  They were such a rage and are now collectible.  Who knew?

Quite a few years ago, Art Impressions created stamps and dies to mimic the Polly Pockets and they called them something else (the name has escaped me).  Unfortunately, Art Impressions no longer carries this line, but I wanted to do a class because they are so adorable.

The following photos show the card closed, then opened showing the pocket, then the insert that goes int he pocket.  The insert then opens up to this adorable scene.  Believe it or not, it only measures 2" tall!  

Here ya go!

Yep!  2" tall and not much wider when opened!  What a fun class you'll have with these.

Swing Cards

This newsletter is premature as I will be otherwise occupied.  But I wanted you to be aware of the next class coming up.  

We will be resurrecting some old tools and many of you will remember them.  Can you say "brads"?  Yes, there was a time when brads and eyelets were the rage in card making.  Like anything in this industry, they faded away leaving us with hundreds of these doo-dads collecting dust.  Well I can't say I'll get rid of them all, but these cards will help in weeding out some brads.

I call these swing cards because the mechanism has to be swung or shifted to the side to open it.  Here's what we'll be doing:

Hinge Cardsa

The end of March - can you believe it?  And what a winter!  I've lined up some fun cards for you for this class which I call  hinge cards.  It's not a new technique, but one we often forget about.  It just adds another dimension to the ordinary A2 cards.  I had so much fun creating these.  What I found was that it reduces the amount of "real estate" that you have to decorate.  Depending on your point of view, it can be relaxing or challenging filling this space. You'll see what I mean by the samples below.

Masking Techniques

Shhh!  I think we've seen the last of the snow!  At least we fervently pray that we have!  So we are back on our regular class schedule. 

We've never used masking sheets before so I thought I'd introduce you to them.  In the past, we had to using something called masking fluid where you would "paint" over the image you wanted to protect, let it dry (yikes!), then do your stamping.  After that you had to rub off all the masking fluid.  Such a pain!

I'll show you how to use the positive and the negative parts of a masking sheet as well as showing you a silly, fun technique to create a background.  In no particular order are the cards we will be creating:

Mugs, Mugs, Mugs

Here we are with our last class of 2025!  Yikes, where did the year go?  And the older we get, the faster these years whiz by - at least it seems so.

We are going to say goodbye to 2025 with some really cute mugs that can be used for a myriad of reasons:  a place setting, gift giving, thank you, get well, etc.  It's endless!

I will supply you with the instructions for the largest mug.  If you have a special need for the smaller renditions, let me know and I'll get the sizes for you.  Here's what we will be doing:

Be aware that I may have to change some of the designer papers involved - it just depends on supply and demand.

POP OUT PILLAR CARDS

Well here we are nearing the end of our class season.  We will have one more class after this one for 2025.  I didn't schedule anything for December as my calendar was starting to look like a Rorschach test!  And I'm sure yours do as well.  But do not fear, we will pick up again in 2026 with, hopefully, some new and fun projects.  Stay tuned!

Today's cards are fun and beyond simple to create.  These cards are all 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 and will require your envelope maker if you have one or if you have this size envelope at home, all well and good.

Here's what we'll be doing.  I'm showing the first card in the flat position first, then standing and open.  All the cars are made the same way.

I think I managed to show the glitter and shine of these cards.  Most of you have already seen them, so there aren't any surprises.

Wiper Cards

Would someone please tell me where September went?  I blinked and it was gone!  Here we are into one of the most gorgeous season in New England.  I was in Maine this past week and the trees are starting to turn.  Can't wait!

So let's think back quite a few years - remember wiper cards?  They have a fun mechanism when opened an element pops up.  Not terribly difficult, but you need to concentrate.  I'll help you thru it all!

Here's what I've got for you. I've only made two cards (don't want to overwhelm you), but I will try and create others with different themes (no promises).  This card lends itself to any occasion believe it or not.
