Top Flap Cards

DATE:  SUNDAY, July 12th

A2 cards are the norm (at least for us in the US) and are followed by an A7 as a very close second. Sometimes we get a bit bored with the same opening of an A2, so this next class will have them opening from the top as in a flap.

I've used a die cut for two cards, but also show how you really don't need a die to create these cards.  There could also be a bonus card in this class depending on time constraints for attendees.  We will also revisit using photo paper and inks for one card.

In no particular order, here's what we'll be doing:

I hope you'll join me for this mostly glue and tape class.  All pieces have been cut - you just need to assemble them.  The last card will require a bit more work - but you are used to that!

Fun Pop Up

Oh, how I love cards with mechanisms!  I don't know whether I have more fun creating them or the the recipient has more fun.  So I've created three cards with the same mechanism, but using different dies and/or stamps to help you stretch your creativity.

This is an easy pop up and I think you'll enjoy it.  Here's what we'll be doing:

Black and Gray

Sometimes I need a little extra inspiration, so one day I started scrolling through by blog (sorta got lost in it - see next statement).  I came across some cards we had done 10 YEARS AGO! that got my attention.  It's sometimes beneficial to revisit certain techniques, themes, etc. and this was the one.

I had created some cards just using stamps and black ink.  Using a gray tonal background, the images needed spicing up, so out came the white pencil and I colored in some areas on each image.  Adding an artistic touch, I also very lightly shaded some of these images so that they stood out a bit more.  Those plain borders were driving me nuts, so out came the Micron pen and squiggles on the borders completed the project.

These cards can be used for male or female and for just about any occasion.  Fun and fast to do, please join me on the 14th for a relaxing class.

Pick a Tune

This is short and sweet.  Closing out May with really authentic looking guitar cards.  I think you'll agree that they are fun, different and quite easy to put together.  We'll be using a combination of pretty background papers, ink splattering, some vellum, etc.  Here's a look at what we'll be doing:

Polly Pockets

You've probably all heard of Polly Pockets - those 1" toys that fit into a compact that the kids could carry around with them.  They were such a rage and are now collectible.  Who knew?

Quite a few years ago, Art Impressions created stamps and dies to mimic the Polly Pockets and they called them something else (the name has escaped me).  Unfortunately, Art Impressions no longer carries this line, but I wanted to do a class because they are so adorable.

The following photos show the card closed, then opened showing the pocket, then the insert that goes int he pocket.  The insert then opens up to this adorable scene.  Believe it or not, it only measures 2" tall!  

Here ya go!

Yep!  2" tall and not much wider when opened!  What a fun class you'll have with these.

Swing Cards

This newsletter is premature as I will be otherwise occupied.  But I wanted you to be aware of the next class coming up.  

We will be resurrecting some old tools and many of you will remember them.  Can you say "brads"?  Yes, there was a time when brads and eyelets were the rage in card making.  Like anything in this industry, they faded away leaving us with hundreds of these doo-dads collecting dust.  Well I can't say I'll get rid of them all, but these cards will help in weeding out some brads.

I call these swing cards because the mechanism has to be swung or shifted to the side to open it.  Here's what we'll be doing:

Hinge Cardsa

The end of March - can you believe it?  And what a winter!  I've lined up some fun cards for you for this class which I call  hinge cards.  It's not a new technique, but one we often forget about.  It just adds another dimension to the ordinary A2 cards.  I had so much fun creating these.  What I found was that it reduces the amount of "real estate" that you have to decorate.  Depending on your point of view, it can be relaxing or challenging filling this space. You'll see what I mean by the samples below.
